“Prince Mako! Prince Mako- come out, you little brat!”
He glanced at his new companion nervously, crouching further down in the grassland as he narrowly avoided being spotted by Lin Beifong, the royal adviser. He knew he really shouldn’t be hiding, but his adoptive father Tenzin could be, well, to put it lightly, overprotective.
“Go.” Her voice made him look up, and he stared at her with wide eyes as she gestured towards the old mandrill.
“B-But, I don’t want to-“
“It’s alright, Mako. We’ll meet again.”
With that, she nudged him up, putting him in Lin’s line of sight. Before he could say a word, the dark cub he had befriended vanished into the grass, her tail the last thing he saw of her before Lin was upon him.
He didn’t see her for years after that, but…
“Korra?”
Her smirk was the same as it always was.
“Told you we’d meet again, Mako.”
