Prompt: “Prompt idea: Mako and Korra are chaperones on Jinora and Skoochy’s first date? :P” –Korra-the-leaf
Pairing: A dash of Makorra and Jinoochy
A/N: I tweaked the request a bit ^^; It’s just a mindless drabble, so ignore it if you want. (P.S. Tried a new style of writing for this one)
Headcanon- Mako’s a junkie for cute moments.
“This is spying.”
“It’s not spying. We’re just watching them.”
“…From a bush?”
“Again, this is spying. Why are we even here?”
“We’re just making sure they’re okay.”
“Liar, you just wanna see their first kiss.”
“What? I do not-”
A finger prods at his chest, and his girlfriend grins at him wickedly.
(Damn her and her damn grin)
“You are such a romantic, Mako.”
“I’m not a romantic, I’m just watching out for them.” He snaps defensively, shifting his body so he can observe the two children over Korra’s shoulder. The foliage provides a decent hiding spot and a good view of the park bench the love birds are currently planted on.
“Mako, let’s go. We look like kidnappers, crouching here behind a bush.” She nudges him with her shoulder, her stomach gurgling angrily at the smells wafting in from the Merchant’s district. They’re supposed to be on a date of their own, but Mako had wanted to stop by and ‘check on’ their little friends.
(They have been ‘checking on’ them for the past 90 minutes)
“Well, what if something happens to them-?”
“Mako, Jinora’s a 14-year-old Airbending master, and Skoochy’s already an up-and-coming rookie for the Second Generation Fireferrets at the age of 16.” Korra deadpans, grabbing him by the arm. “They can handle themselves. I don’t care if you wanna see them kiss or whatever- Let’s go get food.”
“Korra, stop! Come on, just wait a minute- look!” He hisses, gesturing to the couple they were watching. Skoochy has taken the big step of actually putting his arm around Jinora’s shoulder.
(Well, it was cute, but not worth stalking the two for an hour and a half)
“Mako.” Korra paints on a sickly sweet smile. She stands, not caring for the strange stares she’s receiving from passers-by. “If you don’t get up and buy me lunch right now, I’m Earthbending your ass across the city.”
The man gulps, as if contemplating his options.
(Korra wants to laugh, because- isn’t it obvious?- he doesn’t have any)
Deciding that it’s safer to not contradict his super-strong girlfriend, Mako gets up- albeit reluctantly.
“Good.” Korra clips smugly, already tugging him along. “If you still want to go watch sappy stuff, we can see one of those cutesy plays you like later.”
Mako turns bright red.
“You are.” Korra whirls on him, ruffling his hair affectionately. Her eyes sparkle with amusement as she pecks him on the nose. “You are, and it’s cute. But, it’s their first date. Let them have their privacy, Creep!”
Mako grumbles something about ‘Bad Nicknames’ and ‘Untrue statements’ under his breath, and Korra giggles.
“Come on, Mr. Creep. Let’s go get dumplings!”
(He spares the two teens one more glance before allowing himself to be dragged towards the food carts- Ah, young love)
“Finally.” Jinora breathes next to Skoochy, relaxing under his touch. The Earthbender boy rubs circles into his date’s forearm, chuckling.
“Wonder if they realize we knew they were here the whole time.” He drawls, leaning back lazily.
“I think Korra knew- she was just entertaining Mako.” Jinora sighs, curling up against her companion. It’s been tiring- sitting around and waiting for the watchful eyes to pass got tedious after the first few minutes. They had been expecting a bit of spying, but mostly from Tenzin, not the Avatar and her (apparently mushy) boyfriend.
They both shake their heads.
